The results from this week’s bowling are in! In joint first place Ravenclaw and Gryffindor each earn 30 house points, in second place the Hufflepuffs who get 20 house points and in last place Slytherin who get 10. This combined with last week’s quiz puts the house point standings as follows:
1st – Ravenclaw with 110 points
2nd – Hufflepuff with 100 points
= 3rd – Gryffindor and Slytherin with 80 points each
With the Pub Quidditch and First Quiz out of the way, Hufflepuff have succesfully combined Brains and Alcohol to take an early lead in this year’s House Cup.
Slytherin topped the standings in Pub Quidditch, but were nowhere to be seen in the Quiz, as Hufflepuff edged out Ravenclaw by just half a mark, during a quiz filled with obscure character anagrams, caption contests and more.
Hufflepuff are top with 70 points, Ravenclaw and Slytherin joint 2nd with 50, and Gryffindor have work to do on 30 points.
Just remember to SMILE SMILE SMILE!
This Tuesday we’re going to be hosting the first of our totally rad and super groovy Pub Crawls! The name of the game is Pub Quidditch and we’ll start at Koko Gorillaz (where we were last week) at 7.30pm sharp (ish). If you are a tad late, I believe we’ll be going from there to Gassy Jack’s, so check there. Oh! And there will be points if you’re wearing your house colours. JSYK.
Finally, a super friendly reminder to anyone who has not yet paid for their membership, it’s £4 and the like is HERE.
Awesome, oh wow! Like, totally freak me out! I mean, right on! Harry Potter Soc is number one!
Hello, greetings, and a GREAT-WARM-WELCOME to all new and returning members!
It’s time again for a rip roaring year of Harry Potter Society to kick off and what better way to do it than with a good ol’ fashioned sorting? Now, we imagine that you’ll be wondering and pondering about Next Tuesday (October 4th). Well, we’re here to tell you all about it! Festivities begin at 7:00pm outside the front of the union (by the steps) when we will lead you to Koko Gorilaz; which is where we hold our weekly meetings. For those of you who already know where you’re going, feel free to drop by at 7:30pm.
If you’re curious about what the evening has in store, we’ll start by introducing ourselves and getting to know you a bit better. We will then commence The Sorting (we have two hats for optimum sorting efficiency and fun!). After we’ve filed your complaints and promptly ignored them all, we’ll play some icebreaking games so you can get to know your house mates better.
For those who already know all this, and’ve been sorted and EVERYTHING, then you simply must turn up and cheer for your new house mates.
In case anyone missed it, we’ve set up a Facebook page. It’s going to be our main point of organisation on Facebook, so be sure to ‘like’ it!

Some of the society members who were hanging around Cardiff this summer leapt at the chance to help Cineworld celebrate the release of Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows pt 2. Here’s a few photos from the day.

The History of every major Galactic Civilisation tends to pass through three distinct and recognisable phases, those of Survival, Inquiry and Sophistication, otherwise known as the How, Why and Where phases.
“For instance, the first phase is characterised by the question How can we eat? the second by the question Why do we eat? and the third by the question Where shall we have lunch?”
So, where should we have our end of year meal?

This year we walked away from the societies awards with some big smiles and some lovely, shiny trophies. Oh, and just a smidge of de ja vu.
For the second year in a row, we took away the award for Best Webpage. The Guild of Societies remarked upon our use of social media (if you’re not following us on Twitter, you should! @hpsoc) and the character of the content of the site.
We also won runner-up for Most Imaginative Event: The Triwizard Tournament.
Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the society this year. We couldn’t have done it without you. Here’s hoping next year is just as successful!
