People have been asking, so we thought we’d let you know that details about our third and final Triwizard Task are coming very soon. It involves a trip to Longleat and potentially getting lost in a maze, so the committee are definitely looking forward to it.
For the current rankings of the houses after the first two events, have a look here for a breakdown of the points.
If you want a HP Soc hoodie, the deadline for orders is April 1st. There’s a copy of the order form here on our website, but at this point it’s easier to just email us your requirements.

The societies awards are coming up, which means nominations need to be made.
Deadline for nominations will be Friday 26th March at 12pm. Please send your nominations to Tim or to Jemma at
malloriej1@cf.ac.uk. We’d love it (and be extremely flattered) if HP Soc was nominated. You can download the nomination form below.

Photos from our Go Global evening. We attempted to read Philosopher’s Stone in as many languages as we could, finishing off the evening with a rather raucous quiz.

This year, the society is embarking on yet more new territory and taking part in the Student Union’s annual Go Global festival at the end of February.
By involving thousands of students, GO GLOBAL seeks to present the identity and strength of culture of our student body to the University and the local, Cardiff community.
By putting on interesting and unique events, Societies and International Students in close partnership with the Students’ Union, aim to offer scope to students, staff and the local community.
We plan to spend an evening re-telling the story of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in as many languages as possible. And maybe with a few fun (and possible house point-generating) activities thrown in.
Our social on Tuesday 9th February will be in preparation for this. We’ll be discussing how we’re going to put this together, so come armed with ideas and, if you have them, foreign language versions of the books. Which parts of the text are essential to tell the story? Which bits are your favourites?
What else can we do to make the evening entertaining? Suggestions so far have included a Mastermind-style quiz or attempting some sort of indoor Quidditch (probably a bit of a stretch…). All ideas welcome!
Hey guys! In other news of ‘things I should have sent out earlier this week’, in a couple of weeks we’re going to have our second Triwizard task. Only for us, it’s going to be a night at an adult ball pool (adult in that it’s for grown-ups, not any other reason) in Swansea. The website is here.
Friday 19th February. Plan is to meet at the station at 5/5.30, and travel back on the 10.30pm train to Cardiff, so we’d get about three hours in the ball pit. Cost wise, it’s £8.50 (or £7.50 with student ID), plus travel expenses (which will be £6 train with a rail card and £10 without, and then a couple of quid for taxis to get to the Playzone in Swansea).
But we need to book the Playzone, so we’d like to have numbers ASAP. Please email us if you want to come!
After the quiz last week, we need to update the house points! Tim’s epic quiz was highly-contested with just one point between first place and joint second. Congratulations to Ravenclaw on what I believe is their first victory of the year!
The points before:
Slytherin: 516.5
Gryffindor: 502.5
Ravenclaw: 480.5
Hufflepuff: 432.5
And now the updated points:
Slytherin: 550.5
Gryffindor: 536.5
Ravenclaw: 515.5
Hufflepuff: 466.5
So no change to the overall positions. But how will that change this semester…?
We’re ordering hoodies via the SU this year, as well as any other HP Soc gear that people want. Order forms were handed out last semester, but we all know how easy it is to lose random piece of paper. So here’s a handy-dandy .pdf copy of the form for you to download and print out.
Return completed forms (with the money) to Tim.

Thank you to everyone who came to the quiz last night. And especially thanks to Tim for putting together such an entertaining quiz.
It was close, literally one point between first place and joint second. Congratulations to Ravenclaw on their very narrow victory!
Keep an eye on your email for information about next week’s social – the committee are currently working out the details.
